Supporting Australian football

Ambassadors

Optus are proud to have Australia's football elite Lucas Neill and Tim Cahill as its ambassadors for the game. Lucas and Tim are passionate about our FFA partnership’s work at an elite and community level throughout Australia. See them in action in our Secret Training Camp commercial.

Tim Cahill

Tim Cahill plays in attacking central midfield for the Australian national team and has played a key role in our recent World Cup and Asian Cup campaigns. He holds the record for the most goals scored by an Australian player at World Cup matches and in 2007 he became the first Australian player to score at an Asian Cup. He was instrumental in ensuring Australia topped their group during qualification for the 2010 World Cup and at the tournament he added to his international goal tally with a fantastic header scored in Australia's 2-1 win over Serbia.

"Football has taught me that there are no barriers. You can always work to find a solution. I'm proud to be working with Optus who are doing great things for football in Australia, encouraging greater participation and the potential for football to be the first choice of sport for players and fans."

Tim Cahill,
Optus Football Ambassador.

Lucas Neill

Lucas began his professional football in the UK 15 years ago, having left Australia at 17. During his time in England he played for Premier League clubs Blackburn Rovers and West Ham United, who he captained. He now plays in the Turkish Super League for Galatasaray Football Club.

To Australian fans he is best known for his achievements as a central defender in the national team, Lucas has shown steely determination and solid leadership since taking over the captaincy of the Australian team in late 2006 and led the team's 2010 FIFA World Cup™ campaign.

"Local clubs play a vital step in developing football skills and fitness and opening up opportunities. I am delighted to be part of the Optus team as a football ambassador and support the work they are doing for football community development."

Lucas Neill,
Australian Team Captain and proud supporter of Optus Small-Sided Football.
